Analysis and separation results are estimates produced by signal processing, not definitive verdicts. Quality depends on the source recording.
Splitting a song into stems
Stem splitting goes further than vocal removal: instead of two tracks, you get separate files for vocals, drums, bass and everything else. Producers use stems to remix, DJs use them for live mashups, and musicians use them to practise a single part against the rest of the band.
Separation is performed on your device, so processing time scales with the length of the song and the speed of your machine. Because stems are estimated rather than recovered from the original multitrack, expect some bleed — a snare ghost in the 'other' stem, or a synth pad following the vocal. Louder, more distinct sources separate best.
Each stem is exported at the sample rate of the source file, ready to drop into a DAW. If you plan to layer stems back together, keep them at the same rate so they stay sample-aligned.
How to use the stem splitter
- 01Load a song from your device.
- 02Choose which stems you want to isolate.
- 03Let the separation run — longer songs take proportionally longer.
- 04Solo or mute stems to audition the result, then download the ones you need.
Frequently asked questions
A vocal remover produces two tracks — vocals and instrumental. A stem splitter produces four or more, so you can mute the drums but keep bass and vocals, for example.
It depends on your CPU and the length of the track. A typical three-minute song finishes in well under a minute on a modern laptop; older devices and phones take longer.
The tool does not change who owns the recording. Splitting a copyrighted song for release or monetisation still requires permission from the rights holders.
